The Kings Speech
Creative Europe, which came into force on 1 January 2014, has a €1.46 billion budget over seven years. It combines the European Commission’s existing Culture and MEDIA Programmes and is expected to benefit over 300,000 cultural professionals and reach 100 million European citizens.
The UK audio-visual industries benefitted from funding worth just over €100m through the MEDIA programme which ran until 2013.
For the Culture Programme 273 UK organisations were involved in 344 projects receiving almost €128m in total. Recipients include the Take Five Europe scheme to develop the international careers of emerging jazz musicians – led by Serious Events in the UK, with partners in France, the Netherlands, Norway and Poland. The number of UK organisations participating in projects has increased by 50% since the programme started in 2007.

They finance hundreds of programmes in support of artists, actors and musicians, plus others. The aim is to promote cultural diversity and inter-cultural dialogue, culture as a catalyst for creativity and European culture as a vital part of external relations.
They support the Youth in Action programmes and in the improved participation of citizens in physical activities. They also increase the sporting opportunities which includes providing sporting facilities for those with handicaps as well as reducing discrimination. It contributes to the fight against doping, organised crime and fraud in sport.
Momentum Pictures
Momentum pictures is one of the leading motion picture distributors. It distributed the Oscar, BAFTA and BIFA award winning film, The Kings Speech.
It has released several family films, such as, Hoodwinked and the Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle. The studio also is involved with home video rights for popular TV series, such as Creature Comforts.

However, the number of viewers decreased after 1 week of release due to the high popularity in the first week when the majority of people saw the film. Other well advertised films were released close to The Kings Speech, so therefore, these competed for viewers amongst the younger population.

Submarine
Submarine was first released in March 2011. It was only shown at 60 cinemas over the UK. The weekend gross amounted to £244,476. It rated Number 12 in the weeks chart when it was first released. Within 3 weeks, it had gone down to number 15 in the ratings, with a weekend gross of £67,279 and being shown at only 65 cinemas.
Optimum and Submarine
Submarine was distributed by Optimum. Warp Films and Film4 productions were involved in the making of the film. Although the film received positive reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival, the London Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival, it was not advertised very actively to the general public. The film grossed $467,602 in the USA, but outside the USA, only managed $397,057 showing that it did not have a wide appeal.
